Webelos II to Boy Scouts Suggestions for Transitioning
The founder of Boy Scouts, Sir Robert Baden-Powell said, "Scouting is a game with a purpose". The purpose is to have fun while teaching young men the value of physical fitness, leadership skills and character building values. Cub Scouting has been fun but your sons are nearing the time when they will be crossing over into Boy Scouts. There are several constants you can count on. Boy Scouts will be safe, free of ridicule, persecution, physical harm and bigotry. The values you started in Cub Scouts will continue as your son grows into young manhood. But there are fundamental differences between the two programs that will strike you as new and different. Unfortunately, new and different doesn't always translate to comfortable and fun. Crossing over can be a time filled with doubts and fears and is a period of time when the Scouting program loses a lot of good kids and parents. Eleven year olds will be mixing and working with much older boys. These Webelos II to Boy Scout suggestions are designed to help the Webelos II parent, leader and scout become familiar with the next program. More importantly it will help you by telling you how a Scout Troop works so you can prepare your boys now for the time after they crossover. There is a world of learning, life skills and fun at the next level and the goal is to have you and your son continue on the Scouting Trail.
This document is intended to aid parents and their son in the transition to Boy Scouts.
