Troop 52 - Lakeway, Texas
December Webelos campout
Webelos Campout (A.K.A. the Frozen Tundra Campout)
The annual Webelos Campout was held on December 4, 5 & 6th at the Nature Conservancy property off of Hwy. 71. Incoming scouts and their parents were invited to come Saturday through Sunday to check out our troop and to see how our troop is run. Before the scouts came, we set up a trebuchet (huge catapult) that we were going to launch pumpkins and footballs out of, and a wrist rocket shooting area where we shot marbles at clay pigeons. When the Webelos arrived we showed them all we do as boy scouts and told them why they should join our troop. We let them pick out their own pumpkins and cantaloupes to launch, they could shoot wrist rockets, or they could just hang around by the campfire or play football. Troop 52 set a new troop record of three campfires going at once. On Saturday night we made homemade cobbler and beef stew to lure the scouts into our troop by our delicious food. We had peach cobbler, apple cobbler, pineapple cobbler and black cherry cobbler. That night we also had a Golden Spoon competition. A Golden Spoon competition is where the troop provides the supplies and food for each patrol to make beef stew and the patrols have a competition to see who can make the best stew. On Saturday morning everything was covered in ice, which is very unusual for Texas camping.

Mountain bike & climbing campout
Date: November 6, 7,and 8th 2009
At this campout Troop 52 went to Reimer's Ranch in Spicewood, Texas on the banks of the Pedernales River. The purpose of this trip was for the scouts to have fun working on their mountain biking and climbing merit badges. Mr. Leonard was a big help in our climbing section of the campout. He set up the rappel areas and the climbing areas. He brought ropes, harnesses, carabineers and all the necessary climbing tools.
The repel was 80ft and when you were going down the cliff it felt like you were going to fly off. There were some pretty sweet climbs. One climb that was named “Stranger than friction” only had a couple of hand-holds and the rest of it was flat and slippery. Once you got to the top of the climb you could see the river and you felt like you had accomplished something. There was a rock that we climbed that may be the biggest dislodged rock in Texas. Tyler and Clark had their tried their hand at fishing on the shore of the Pedernales river. The fish did not cooperate but they had fun anyway.
The mountain bike event was led by Mr. Jeeter and Mr. Dewitt. Everyone could bring their own bike, but if someone didn't have a bike he could arrange for someone to loan him one. The trails were great. They were fast, hilly and through the woods. Every year Troop 52 does a service project for the Travis county park rangers by cutting down baby Cedar trees and clearing the land. We do this so Troop 52 can keep coming back every year to Reimer’s Ranch to enjoy the lovely land, climbs and trails.
